The Gili Islands, NO cars! NO motorbikes! NO worries…!

Situated just off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia, the Gilis are made up of three small islands: Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan.
The intense calm of the islands is due to the fact that there are no motor vehicles there. You can only move on foot, with a bike or horse-drawn carriages, the so-called Cidomos.
Incredible peace and quiet, turquoise water, sea turtles and nemos at your fingertips, chilled beach bars and breathtaking sunsets. Welcome to the paradise of the Gili islands!

Mt. Rinjani- The journey to the Summit

People call Rinjani the Seven Hills of Regret because its tracks are so difficult and it leaves trekkers weary down to the bone. But, like a true adventurer, you have to pay dearly to experience this ancient beauty.

My journey to the summit….

Day 1- Arrived at the Airport

The driver is waiting outside the airport to send us to our hotel and while on our journey we stop and ate a local food for dinner. Not so sure of the name but the food is so spicy 😂😂😂

In like 1-1.5hrs we reached at the hotel. Took some rest and start to prepare for the next 3D2N Trekking.

Day 2- Woke up at 6:00am and have some local breakfast. After then they drive us to the village of Sembalun (1100m). We passed by to some of the local houses and top up gas.

Before trekking trekkers must register in Rinjani information centre (local and foreigner rates are different). Porter registration is in the starting point.

Starting Point

We started our trek at around 8:00am and we start with a gentle climb through an open meadow.

Enjoy the lush greenery and the flat terrain you are walking on because you will soon be scaling heights! About 2 hours of walking, we reached the post 1 (1300m)

Another 40 minutes to Pos 2 (1500m). We take a short break here for 5 to 10 minutes and then we continue our journey to Pos 3 (1800m), walking time approximately 1 hour. We rest for 1-2 hours then the guide and porters will prepare the lunch and tent if the weather is hot/raining.

Ever wondered how your meals would be like during your trek on Mount Rinjani? Would they build a campfire? Use solid fuel for cooking? What kind of meals would you have?

Well, campers would be happy to know that woks, a portable gas stove and a variety of food will be brought up by the porters to ensure that you are sufficiently fed during your entire trek!

After lunch and a rest, we continue heading to Sembalun Crater Rim (2636m), walking time 3 hours including a prolonged steep climb. (Depends on your pace).

We camp the night  at Sembalun Crater Rim. From here you will enjoy the awesome views.

Day 3- Woke up around 1:30 am under the cover of darkness with a hot drink and a light breakfast. Start heading to the summit of Rinjani (3.726m) at 2:00 am. Walking time approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The first stage started with a moderate trek, followed by a fairly easy but longer trek.

The Death Zone-Final approach that involves climbing up steep volcanic scree looser. The last hour is very steep and difficult. There are many loose stones, and as you take two steps forward you will slip one step back.

Take  picture with the beautiful scenery of the lake and soak in to refresh your skin.

Had our lunch break and a rest. After enough resting, we then go up to Senaru crater rim (2641m) for 3 hours walking. The trail quite top, steep up and stony.

Our campsite for the night (I took this photo next morning but reached here at 10pm- total hike in day 3 was like 20hrs- base on my pace)

Day 4- After breakfast with a beautiful sunrise, we left Mount Rinjani descend to Senaru village through the rainforest. It takes 5 hours and we took lunch along the way.
